Don: [00:00:00] Welcome to Thrive by Design, the podcast. I’m Don Rheem, CEO of E3 Solutions. It’s just me here today to share a brief, yet really important holiday message. First, thank you for downloading, listening, and sharing this podcast. [00:00:25] Most importantly, thank you for caring about your culture and your people. At E3, we’re passionate about educating leaders at every level in the organization about the power of engagement. We created this show to serve as a resource and tool for you to learn about how to use engagement to create real change in your company’s culture.

[00:00:48] We want you to look forward to coming to work and to create a positive and safe workplace, so when you go home you can give your best to your family. And speaking of family, it’s the holidays! A time of both joy and fun and stress. Work stress and personal stress seems to rear up during the holidays as employees wrap up projects, take time off, and juggle their personal lives full of parties, gifts, and commitments.

[00:01:15] During this season, I encourage you to take time for three key things as a leader. First, express gratitude. Tell your employees, genuinely, how grateful you are for them. Make it personal. Don’t paint broad brush strokes. Truly let each employee know why you are grateful they show up to work every day, how they contribute to the team and the organization in powerful ways. Ensuring each individual feels valued will go a long way to ending your year on the best note possible.

[00:01:50] Second, celebrate! Too often we view work as a serious place. That’s why we call it work. We’re in community when we are at work. Healthy communities thrive by celebrating with one another. We can and should be fun. Celebration deepens relationships, builds bonds, and facilitates that emotional velcro that fosters deeply engaged environments. Make sure your team feels celebrated as we close out 2018.

[00:02:23] And third, refresh, recharge. Your team will benefit from a leader who continues to show up to work in a consistent and predictable way. But you can’t show up five days a week, 52 weeks a year in a consistently positive manner unless you are practicing strong self care. I hope you take time over the next week or so to refresh, recharge, spend time with those you love. Read a good book. Go out and play catch with your kids. Sit in front of the fireplace. Whatever you do, taking care of yourself will allow you to head into the new year with a renewed sense of energy, commitment, and the ability to show up for your team the best way possible every day.
